Women Archetypes
Sajitha Shankar's series on archetypes revisits the sources of feminine generative power in Indian myths, rituals, folklore, devotional streams, art and literature. From Akka Mahadevi to the Mother Roots, the series limns the trajectory of feminine figures rising in autonomy with a will of their own, shaping an alternative reality different from the mundane. In re-visioning the feminine archetypes, Sajitha's work inserts the autobiographical, resulting into the multiplicity of selves in flowing connectivity between the human and nature, the inside and the outside. In this process, one recognizes akind of time travel of the selves in the deeper layers of cultural memory
